The Anker Soundcore Life Q20 Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Bluetooth headphones are quite the find for the price. It’s difficult to find ANC headphones with any quality at all for less than $80 but the Life Q20s are a pleasant surprise. Anker is not a new company and they build quality affordable products. So if you are in the market for ANC headphones but don’t want to drain your bank account, these may be the perfect choice.
The Soundcore Life Q20 are comfortable to wear and only weigh 9.3 ounces. They have foldable memory foam earcups that are not only comfortable but are easy to store in a backpack or purse.
To control the headphones there are buttons that sit on the left earcup. The first button is used to power them on and for Bluetooth pairing. There is a second button that turns on the noise-cancelling feature which is designed to block 90 percent of low and mid-range noise.
Other features include “BassUp” which is Anker’s bass-boosting feature and is engaged when you double press the play button. If you long-press the play button you can bring up Siri or Google Assistant and speak to them with the built-in microphone. There is also a Micro-USB charging port and a 3.5mm audio jack to listen by wire.
You shouldn’t expect any issues with pairing these headphones with your devices and there is good Bluetooth 5.0 range. As far as the sound of these headphones, you might be surprised by how much detail you will hear and how wide of a soundstage is produced.
For those who like a heavy bass there is the “BassUp” mode that boosts the bass 100%. This may be overpowering for some but for those who can’t get enough bass, you’ll be pleased with this feature.
Anker advertises 60 hours of battery life. It appears though that if you continuously use noise-cancelling that time will be reduced to about half of that. Even with that in mind these are still a good choice for those who spend a lot of time on trains and planes.
As far as their noise cancelling abilities, these headphones perform well if not quite up to the level of more expensive headphones. Four built-in microphones are used to filter mid and low-end ambient sounds, and have no problem keeping out noisy jet engines or loud exhausts.
Overall it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the Anker Soundcore Life Q20 may be the best entry-level active noise cancelling headphones on the market. They have excellent sound quality as well as excellent noise cancelling abilities, a built-in microphone that works well enough for phone calls, and a long battery life. Not only that, they are comfortable to wear and can be had for a fraction of the cost of the top Sony and Bose offerings.
So if you are a road warrior, city-walker, or anyone else that would like to hear the music and cut the noise, the Soundcore Life Q20 should be seriously considered.
